Marie Cartier and Carolyn Weathers will both be presenting at the American Academy of Religion Annual Conference this year held in San Antonio, Texas.
Carolyn, whose photo appears on the cover of Marie’s book, Baby, You Are My Religion, will be presenting on and giving a tour of LGBTQI sites in San Antonio from the 1950s and 60s. Carolyn has an extensive collection of photos she has been taking since the 1950s and includes sites such as the Acme Bar, Top Hat, Fernando’s, and other locations around the city and the surrounding countryside. Here is a short clip of her on The HomoFiles public access show from 2011.
Marie will also be presenting her paper on the Orlando Pulse nightclub tragedy. You can watch an excerpt of her presentation from the WeHo Lesbian Panel Series in September 2016.

Great news! We were awarded the Cal Humanities Community Stories grant to help us make The HomoFiles as a documentary. Very grateful to our fiscal sponsor, POWER UP Films, and to The Center at Long Beach for their in-kind contributions. We are excited to begin work on this project and look forward to posting more about the process as we move along. Thanks again to Cal Humanities, POWER UP, and The Center of Long Beach.
